The government has approved extension of stay for migrant labourers up to November 30, exempting them from overstay penalty.

Government Spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat said yesterday the government has backed the Ministry of Labour’s review of the Cabinet resolution on March 24 on the period of leniency for migrant labourers and their dependants.

Migrant labourers can temporarily stay in the Kingdom until November 30. They can use the list of migrant employment requirements issued by the Department of Employment and the current work permit.

Distressed mother threatens to throw child off Bangkok bridge

Photographs of a mother threatening to throw her daughter off Bangkok’s Memorial Bridge and then commit suicide went viral yesterday (April 15), after being shared on the Facebook account of an eyewitness.

The account owner said that passers-by called the police while attempting to calm the distraught woman.

When police arrived at the scene, she told them that her boyfriend had just left her and their child and she had serious financial issues. The stress of the break-up and money problems had made her suicidal, she said.

The police stayed with the woman until she had calmed down enough to take her daughter back home. However, the Facebook eyewitness said those who saw the incident are still worried about the fate of the mother and child.

He commented that the daughter looked completely clueless about the situation on the bridge and her apparent brush with death.
